Is Online Therapy or Teletherapy Right for Me?

There is a recurring myth in the therapy world that online therapy or telehealth is an inferior approach to traditional face-to-face therapy. This may be true in some cases but is very false in others. From my experience I have found that online therapy is an innovative, accessible solution that offers flexibility by overcoming barriers of distance, impaired mobility, issues surrounding social anxiety and busy schedules.

Telehealth can be an incredibly accommodating approach to access therapy.

  1. Busy Schedules - when there is a lack of access to the therapy room - online therapy can be an incredibly effective approach. For example, if you have a teenager who has a busy schedule and you are a parent with an equally busy schedule; online therapy can be an easy way to access therapy without the hassle of getting to and from the office.

  2. Social Anxiety - many individuals struggle with social anxiety. As a result, you may be seeking support from a professional to help. The only issue is, the exact thing that is supposed to make you feel better is the same thing that is making you feel anxious in the first place. As a result, you may feel hesitant, or even scared to begin therapy. I have found that a balance of face-to-face and online therapy sessions can be an extremely effective combination of care for those struggling with social anxiety. You may feel more comfortable accessing and sharing your thoughts, feelings, fears, and concerns during online therapy sessions; whereas you will learn to overcome and be comfortable with your anxieties when face-to-face in the therapy room

  3. Barrier of Distance - online therapy can be a great way to access a practitioner that you mesh well with and otherwise would not be able to see due to distance

  4. Impaired Mobility - online therapy is an accessible solution to therapy for those who have impaired mobility. Impaired mobility is challenging in its own way; as a result, having a non-biased person to talk and work with can be an incredibly beneficial step in working through the challenges that come with being mobility impaired.

I utilize a confidential and HIPPA compliant video conferencing tool that you can feel confident and comfortable will not only provide access to therapy but in a trustworthy way.
