Eating Disorder Therapy: Are You Ready to Begin?

Therapy for eating disorders is based upon meeting the client where they are at. What does that mean? It means that we will start from wherever you are on your recovery journey, even if that means you feel hesitant to begin recovery. It would be inappropriate for a therapist to think that they could change a client’s mind, rather a therapist can give a client the tools and information that they need to decide if they want to change on their own.

What will happen during therapy for an eating disorder?

We will work together to discover the parts of self that are in conflict to each other. For example, there is likely a part of you that has no interest in recovery. What if I begin recovery and lose control? What if it doesn’t work? My eating disorder is all I know - who would I be without it? And then another part of you that dreams of a day when you do not feel consumed by thoughts about your body and food. What would it feel like to not count calories? What would it feel like to actually enjoy a meal?

By discovering your different parts, you will have more access to hear these different thoughts and voices at any given moment and then decide what is the best choice for you in that moment.

We will also work through the 10 Principles of Intuitive Eating
